Quinoa is one of the healthiest fibrous foods as it contains many nutrients and minerals. It is particularly rich in protein, and it is gluten-free that’s why athletes, vegetarians, and people who have gluten intolerance swear by it.
But, for how long can you keep a quinoa dish before it goes bad? We will provide you with an answer to that question in this short article.
If your quinoa is raw
Raw quinoa lasts for up to 2 years if stored properly. To that end, you need to make sure to keep it away from moisture, heat and direct light considering that they can lead to mold formation.
After opening a sealed package of raw quinoa, it is preferable to transfer its filling to an airtight container to avoid insect intrusion. After securing the container, put it in a dry place, away from light and heat.
To further extend the life shelf of uncooked quinoa, you could store it in the refrigerator, while putting it in a completely sealed box.

If your quinoa is cooked
Cooked quinoa lasts for no more than 2 hours when left in room temperature because germs and microorganisms tend to develop rapidly in warm to hot temperatures, especially that cooked food becomes more perishable and therefore, more prone to rotting.
That being said, when having some leftovers of cooked quinoa, lock it away and put it in the fridge as soon as they cool down to room temperature. In this case, your quinoa should last for up to 7 days without going bad.
If you don’t have any intention of consuming your leftovers of quinoa within a week, then you should put them in the freezer, and they will remain safe to eat for 8 to 12 months. Make sure to store it properly and to isolate it from the air.
The period of time within which you can keep quinoa seeds and consume them safely depends essentially on whether they’re raw or cooked, but also on how well you store them.
In fact, quinoa seeds have many different varieties, but the most consumed types in the US are red quinoa, black quinoa, and white quinoa. These breeds of quinoa should all be stored in the same way that we indicated above.
Nonetheless, even though quinoa can be safely preserved for a long time, and to be able to enjoy the flavors of quinoa, it is best for your taste to consume it within a few days if it’s cooked and within a year if it’s raw.
