How to Wash a Synthetic Wig

how to wash a synthetic wig

Synthetic wigs are quite fragile because they are created using artificial fibers which are more prone to getting ruined than natural hairs. As a consequence, unnatural wigs need extra care to maintain a good shape and appearance.

In this how-to book, we’ll share with you a few simple steps you can follow to wash your synthetic wig the right way.

Step 1: Untangle it

Before you proceed to the washing, make sure to remove tangles from your false hair using a wig brush or a tooth comb. Be extra careful not to pull the hair out of its roots and work your way up slowly to the wig’s cap, taking a small bit of hair at a time.

Step 2: Shampoo it

Fill your tank with enough tepid water to submerge the wig completely. Afterward, add a handful of shampoo (a wig’s shampoo preferably) to the water and give it a shake. Finally, dip your wig and let sit for about 5 minutes. Stir it every once in a while.

Step 3: Rinse it

Once the five minutes are over, get your synthetic hair out of the water and rinse thoroughly with tap water until the hair is perfectly cleared out of the shampoo. Fight the urge of twisting the wig.

Step 4: Condition it

Spread some hair conditioner over the synthetic hair. Rub it well in straight movements, and let sink in for about 5 minutes. Finish by a final rinse using cold tap water.

Step 5: Dry it

Use a clean towel to pat the wig to eliminate the excess water.  This step requires a lot of gentleness and patience because synthetic wigs are even more fragile than natural hairs. You can replace the towel when it gets wet.

Once it’s almost dry, put it on the wig stand and try to reorganize the hair in the shape it used to hold. Let it dry overnight in room temperature.

Conclusion

Taking proper care of your wig is crucial if you want to extend its life shelf. Besides, the more you wear this trendy accessory, the more frequently you need to clean it up. When doing so, remember never to use any source of heat because it will only melt the artificial fibers and therefore ruin them.

We hope the steps we provided you with were clear and concise so you can apply them at any given moment of the day.
